Spatz & Co is uniquely a “band of bandleaders” and was formed on the precept that bandleaders tend to be multi-instrumentalists, accomplished musicians and strong solo performers.
Gus Andrews (Trumpet) toured with The Drifters and worked with Deep Purple; Dick Lee (Sax/Clarinet) is an award winning composer; Gordon McNeil (Tenor Sax/Flute) has toured the world and played Las Vegas; Malcolm MacFarlane (Lead Guitar) toured with Shakatak, has recorded and performed with Jamie Cullum; Tom Gordon (Drums) holds the BBC Big Band drum chair, has worked with Elton John and Rod Stewart; Erik Lars Hansen (Bass) is an American who played the Los Angeles Jazz scene for years; Ray Elrick (keys/synths) has a wealth of experience as an accompanist; and Spatz & Co leader Roy Mac (Vocals, Guitar/Piano) has a theatre background with TV and Radio appearances to his name.
Their collaboration brings together specialist knowledge over many music genres, from Big Band, Great American Songbook, Blues, Pop, R & B, Latin, Rock & Roll, Jazz and Classical. With such a range at their disposal a show that constantly moves from one genre to another was inevitable.
This 2017 touring show “Midnight at The Oasis” is more than a concert, with a setting based on a fictional tropical nightclub, The Oasis. The band’s songs and instrumentals capture some of the greatest melodies ever written, from Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Acker Bilk, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Gerry Rafferty, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Lennon & McCartney, ELO and more – all feature in a non-stop, foot tapping sequence that builds to a stunning climax
