Musica Scotica 2017 Presents Scottish Voices.

Performance is 60 minutes (no interval) / Pre-concert talk 6 pm – Free

Scottish Voices is an ensemble of women’s voices (soloists, not choristers), under the musical direction of Graham Hair. The ensemble is usually four, with twenty- nine singers having participated over the years since 1991. Their repertoire consists of mostly recent music, by composers working in Scotland or who call Scotland home, including composers from the Scottish diaspora: a cappella works or works accompanied by piano, organ, harp, vibraphone, string quartet, ensemble, or orchestra (The Orchestra of Scottish Opera).

Of the ensemble’s recent CD ‘Music From 3 Continents’, released on the US Ravello label, reviewer Colin Clarke wrote in the American Fanfare (equivalent of The Gramophone in the UK) : ‘The very first track gives you some idea of the power of this disc … an explosion of sound and exuberance. The performance is simply stunning, and Hair’s imagination seems to know no bounds … Do investigate, there is something very special about this recording.’

Scottish Voices’ repertoire tonight will include Scottish works of historic provenance by Hamish MacCunn and Hans Gal and works by contemporary composers Edward McGuire, John Maxwell Geddes, John Gormley and Scottish Voices’ musical director Graham Hair: with voices, obbligato instruments, harp, piano and electro-acoustics. This performance is the final part of the Musica Scotica 2017.
