Scotland’s premier Shakespeare company Bard in the Botanics explore the role of woman in classical theatre by switching the genders of the play.

10.50 full / £8.50 Conc / £5.50 students

Adapted & Directed by Jennifer Dick

Shakespeare’s best-loved tragedy told from the perspective of a Great Queen, in a thrilling and unmissable new production from Bard in the Botanics.

The aged Queen Lear wishes to divide her kingdom between her three children – the one who loves her most will receive the largest slice. Her eldest children play along, but her youngest refuses and in a rage, is banished. The Queen then puts herself under the care of her daughters, who seem to lack both love, and care. The Queen must battle the loss of her place and position and also, terrifyingly, the loss of her reason.

Please note this is an unseated outdoor event on the University of Stirling campus – you’re welcome to bring your own rugs, cushions or small camping chairs. In bad weather we will relocate the performance and move indoors to our Mainhouse.
